What you'll do

*****PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE IF THE DATE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS TRIP ISN'T AVAILABLE*****

We will do a beautiful hike on the volcanic mountains of Hakone. Hopefully we will see Mt Fuji, eat a local lunch, and if like we can finish the day with an optional hot spring!

Because it is winter and very cold a full day mountain hike is only available for people with proper winter clothes and grippy shoes. For those less prepared I recommend my 'Hakone: Volcanoes and Onsen' trip.

I will choose our day plan based on the weather conditions, your preferences and how prepared you are. When you book please send me a message to let me know if your hiking level and what gear you have and it will help me choose the right hike for the day!

During the day we will have some lunch and finish with an optional onsen. Let me know if you have dietary restrictions or tattoos and we can plan accordingly.

Hakone is a big place and you could spend a week sightseeing there. My plan is to make a great day in the outdoors for you and give you the real flavour of Hakone.

I am a professional hiking and nature guide in Japan. Having worked from Fuji to Okinawa. I love trail running and especially hot springs after! I am also the founder of the islands-of-japan website. Having lived in Tokyo on and off for several years now. Hakone has been my hiking and hot springs playground and I can't wait to share it with you!

Wow! What a great day we had with Michael, truly a highlight of our holiday to Japan. Michael’s passion and knowledge of Japan and the outdoors was obvious and made our adventure fun and authentic. We loved his stories as we hiked and they gave us an insight to the culture and matched perfectly with the experience. The hike was beautiful and the views of Mt Fuji extraordinary. We felt like VIP’s as Mike introduced us to the generous and lovely hostess of the cafe at the top. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch and hot drink which fuelled us for the hike back down to then enjoy a luxurious Onsen. Thank you Michael for your genuine care of us. Even the small things you did were appreciated like staying with us to ensure we had the correct return train tickets to Tokyo. You are a fantastic guide and we highly recommend your services.

An amazing day and a view you probably wouldn’t be able to find yourself! The hike was pretty easy going and suited to beginners and the meal you can get on top of the mountain was delicious, definitely worth the hike to get to it!

Thoroughly enjoyed the bike today with Michael. He shared the history of Shintoism and other interesting stories. He made sure the hike was at a reasonable pace for both of us and other places for trail running near Tokyo. Highly recommend.

It was an extraordinary experience to me. The host, Michael was especially the best part of the trip! He was very flexible arranging the trip, cared for us, had wonderful stories and kept us entertained!! I would definitely want to go on this type of trip again. Sadly, the weather was a bit cloudy so we couldn’t get a view of Mt. Fuji, but the tracking was so fun and interesting and the onsen at the end was FANTATIC!! Very relaxing, all the tiredness washed away and was able to return home with a great memory. I definitely would recommend this trip to all of my friends, and future tourists who are wishing to taste the nature of Japan. Thank you Michael again!! 😊
