What you'll do

I offer introductory lessons in throwing on the potters wheel. The class includes a full demonstration and then you will have fun throwing your own pots! The lesson can be one-to-one, or a party can be arranged. Pottery is fired and glazed on site and is ready for collection 4 weeks later, or can be posted to you. There are a number of options for tailor made classes and workshops. Classes are designed for beginners as well as the more experienced. The pottery garden is a safe space and you may want to feed the friendly hens too!

I’m an expert in teaching all aspects of ceramics, but my specialism is throwing on the potters wheel. I’ve have taught ceramics for over 30 years now! I run a pottery studio from my large comfortable garden studio that is fully equipped with safety screens.I’m also able to organise one-to-one tuition or a range of workshops/ parties suitable for groups of people in my garden, under a 3X3 metre marquee.

Where you'll be

Pottery lessons are held in the hosts large garden studio, which is fully equipped. There are five potters wheels, and a full range of making tools to use. It is possible to work outside under a large marquee. You may wish to visit the famous Secretts Farm Shop at the end of the Lane to purchase a picnic. There are facilities for raku firing and pit firing in the large garden, with a log burning fire pit to huddle around in the evening.

I had a wonderful time developing my bowl. Claire is an experienced potter who is able to guide anyone in different techniques through gentle and patient support. The whole experience was one of relaxation and peace in a cosy studio. She made everyone feel relaxed and welcome with good social distancing and preventative measures in place. I will definitely go back again to try my hand at something else.

This was an amazing experience. Pottery was something my wife and I wanted to dabble into for a while. Claire was the perfect artist to help introduce us to it. From the moment you enter her garden you can sense the creative spirit of her quaint space. We left her place wanting to create more pottery.

A really enjoyable afternoon. Claire is very welcoming and knowledgable. We were first provided with a thorough and interesting demonstration followed by the chance to make our own bowl which we did one at a time, fully supported by Claire. This was great as she was able to provide tips and adjust technique along the way so that the end bowls looked surprisingly good! Claire has implemented a whole host of safety measures to ensure social distancing and so you feel very safe - including the use of plastic screens and separate wash bowls.

This was a really great experience. My partner and I were keen to do an entry level/beginner course and despite being clearly very talented/advanced Claire designed and delivered a session that was perfectly suited to our level - she was very welcoming, friendly, encouraging and supportive. As well as catering for our rather pedestrian needs Claire definitely has the capability/knowledge to manage more advanced sessions - other examples of her, and other students’, work was in the workshop and she is clearly very competent (and as I say, a great teacher!) Significant steps had been made to make the workshop/experience COVID-safe and this was greatly appreciated and this needn’t be an additional worry. Thank you again - it was as really great afternoon!
