What you'll do

First, let's know each other better. Shall we sip some beverage together and tell some stories about each other? In our experience, people who who found a real draw with ceramics are pretty special.

After a short introduction to our little studio we will get our hands in clay.

One person will be throwing on a wheel while other person will be doing handbuilt ceramics - you may choose from many handbuilt techniques: pinching, coiling or slab work. Then the person doing wheel can switch to handbuilt, so other person can learn throwing clay on a wheel.

Steps for throwing on a wheel:

- wedge clay well, form into a round ball.
- center clay
- push clay down (repeat steps until clay is centered.
- open up clay
- create floor
- pull walls
- shape
- finish

Joanna and her husband Artur are the creative duo Dust Ceramics. They moved from Warsaw to the Mojave Desert in 2016 to create their mindful, modern ceramics in the desert. You can find their pieces in best local shops, galleries and many stylish Airbnb rentals in Joshua Tree and Palm Springs area. Teaching wheel throwing and hanbuild ceramics is their great passion - they like to share their love to clay as a mindful, meditative activity which helps to unwind from a long day and connect to your inner self.

Definitely one of my favorite experiences in JT. Super friendly and patient with my lack of knowledge for the arts. The dogs were sweet and loving. My teachers really taught me what I needed to learn in order to take clay seriously. I also had a great time doing it. Will definitely be back for more.
