What you'll do

Our walking tour will take in Dublin's medieval quarter right through to it's revolutionary history in the 20th century, at a pace that can be enjoyed and understood by almost everyone. The tour will begin at Dublin Castle including the original Viking origins of the town, from here we will go to St. Patrick's Cathedral and hear about the truth and fiction behind Ireland's patron saint, Christ Church Cathedral and its links to the Norman conquest of Ireland (and its links to Game of Thrones!), along the way we will see relics of the medieval town. We will stop for a break on a private rooftop with a great view. We then move on to the cultural quarter of Dublin. I'll show you some hidden gems, some local street art and some of the tourist traps to avoid. We'll pass through Trinity College and on to the Famine memorial, before visiting the site of the Irish uprising against British rule in 1916 (GPO/O'Connell street) and the Ha'penny Bridge. Our tour will wrap up in a local bar where we can continue the conversation over a delicious authentic Irish meal and beer/wine of your choice (included in tour price!). A tour with me offers you the chance to see the city through the eyes of a permanent resident and working historical researcher; combining non-scripted historical expertise, and several years of tour guiding experience. All ages welcome, but over 16 advised (content)

Alan

(For groups of more than 2 people please message directly) My Name is Alan. I'm a working historical researcher and tour guide living right in the heart of Dublin's Temple Bar District. My family's roots in Dublin stretch back several generations. I qualified with a Masters in Modern Irish History in 2017 (First Class Honours) and have been guiding for three years as a freelancer for several companies. I also work as an archive researcher for one of Ireland's best known TV Presenters/Journalists on an upcoming book. I love combining my passion for history and research with telling stories of Ireland's past. I'm now offering my services and expertise to individual travellers in order to really get to know Dublin's history, culture and stories on a more intimate, conversational level.
