What you'll do
We'll start with a tour of Art Farm Austin's gardens and meet the farm animals (chickens, goats, pigeons), followed by a crash course in urban agriculture and Austin's food landscape. Then, we'll get hands-on in the goat barn with a morning or evening milking. I'll show you step-by-step how to hand-milk a Nigerian Dwarf goat named Iris, how to process the milk safely, and how many ways you can use goat milk in the kitchen and beyond! After our milking session we'll enjoy some extremely fresh goat milk in tea or coffee, and you can sample some plain delicious goat milk! I'll also send you on your way with some fresh herbs from the gardens and a list of farmstands, farmers markets and shops you can visit to sample locally produced food!

I'm an urban agriculturist who started Art Farm Austin to produce fresh veggies, fruit, herbs, flowers, goat milk, chicken eggs, dove meat and honey on a quarter-acre microfarm in South Austin! I'm a biology professor, artist, and Airbnb host who wants to show you how much is possible agriculturally on just one quarter of an acre of land. I love to find food, agricultural and outdoor activities whenever I travel: most recently this was a Catalan cheesemaking class in Olot, Spain that I absolutely loved! I can't wait to teach you about mini goats and give you a milking lesson! Afterwards, we can enjoy some of our milk in tea or coffee, or just have a tasting of pure, fresh goat milk!
Enjoy a taste of fresh goat milk from our milking session just by itself, or with coffee or tea of your choice!
I'll provide all milking equipment including milk pails, filters, dishes/glasses.

Where you'll be
We'll visit the gardens, goat barn, and kitchen at Art Farm Austin in our quest to find out how goat milk is made and how miniature goats fit into the urban agricultural landcape. Oh yeah, and there will be LOTS of goat cuddles and feeding opportunities with Iris the mama goat and her baby Juno!
Things to keep in mind
Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase.
Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside the Airbnb website or app.
Up to 4 guests ages 8 and up can attend. Parents may also bring children under 2 years of age.
You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.
You'll be going into the goat barn so make sure to wear shoes you don't mind getting a little dirty. You don't need to bring anything special, just an eagerness to learn! If you'd rather just watch a milking that's okay too, the hands-on part of the milking is optional.
