What you'll do

After coffee, croissants and introductions, I will talk briefly about the history of stained glass, and describe how a stained glass window is made. Then I will talk about how my own work in stained glass follows and diverges from this tradition. This will be followed by a short writing activity. After that guests will have a chance to make a glass composition of their own, using colored shards, epoxy and glass paint. At the end of the workshop they will have at least one creation of their own to take home.

Alison is such an artistic soul. My husband and I had a wonderful time learning about stained glass making and actually making artistic pieces ourselves. Alison is a gentle soul that brings out the artistic side in you with words of encouragement and helpful suggestions. This is a unique experience that you cannot get anywhere else.

Attending Alisons Stain Glass Poetry workshop was a pleasure and such a unique experience! The workshop took place inside Alisons stained glass studio and I was welcomed by her perfect hospitality with croissants and a green tea of my choice :) The workshop itself was fascinating as Alison provided a great overview of the history of stain glass and her own practice. Finally, I really had such fun in the making of my glass pieces and Alison was always on hand to help. The workshop was everything I could have hoped for and I highly recommend Alison as she is such a warm, friendly and inspiring host :) she even invited me to an exhibition of hers. If you are interested in trying something new this will be perfect!

Thoroughly enjoyable way to get into stained glass. The host started off with a little snack while providing background into stained glass history and its connection to Paris. The studio sports a good number of exquisite objects that formed a cool backdrop to a free writing exercise to get us into a proper creative mood, after which we made a simple epoxy composition by choosing out own glass pieces and then moved up to copper coil soldering, which, as I was to learn, is the same technique used to make Tiffany lamps. A lot of fun and you get to take your pieces back with you to hang in your home.
