What you'll do

Guests will receive humorus, low key, conversational instruction on local history, flora and fauna, as they walk the property and tour our home. After an hour or so of walking and talking at a farm hand pace guests will adjurn to our porch or yard depending on the weather. They will be offered light refreshements and a comfortable seat to begin contemplating their inspired work of art. Luke will demonstrate selecting steal, evaluating the collection of farm and garden implements to choose from, welding, drawing, and painting techniques for working in acrylics. Each guest will paint a work of art to take home with them. The location will be our shop which is on our farm. No more than 6 participants at a time will be allowed. Guests will be able to choose their own unique hand made steel sculpture or plaque to design. Turtles, flowers, vegtables, animals, reptiles and of course pets are represented in the collection of items.

Luke is a retired guidance councelor and is a graduate of the University of Richmond with a degree in Art and psychology and a masters from VCU in Councelor Education. He has over 30 years of experience in renovating and restoring old structures. Currently, he works with steel using a plasma cutter to create designs that he paints with acrylics.
Catherine is a retired special education teacher who built an outdoor classroom to connect students to learning.
We both completed training as Virginia Master Naturalists in 2007. We have spent the past 20 years researching the history, flora and fauna of our 1789 farm and woodlands and love sharing our findings. We can delight visitors with stories and lore about local humans and our wild neighbors. Guests will take home a handmade unique work of art insprired by our passion for our community

Where you'll be

Our walking farm/forest tour will cover wooded and open areas. Depending on the time of year we will identify flora and fauna using a unique collection of field guides and apps. Trail time can be modified to meet the needs and abilities of the guests. Our historic home will be open for tours and socializing with modern amenities. Guests can be inside or outside depending on the weather for painting the sculptures.

Cancellation policy

Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase, or at least 7 days before the experience starts.

Government ID

You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.

Up to 6 guests ages 18 and up can attend.
