What you'll do

Kabuki performances tend to be between 4-5 hours long and often involve long queues for one-act tickets, so before you go to all that effort, join this tour of the Kabuki-za Gallery and learn everything you need to know about Kabuki!

With this essential information, Kabuki experience will be more understandable and enjoyable. The tour begins with a "What is Kabuki?" talk over Japanese tea and sweets at a Japanese tea shop in a rooftop Japanese garden before exploring the Kabuki-za Gallery. Your guide, Kazui, will show you her precious 150 year old “Ukiyo-e”, woodblock prints and other Kabuki-related collections!

At the gallery, you will be shown props and costumes used for the shows, and enjoy short films of Kabuki performances. There are even hands-on activities such as a chance to play the classical instruments which give Kabuki its distinct sound. Kazui will explain about each exhibit and how to enjoy the Kabuki short films. This will give you a wonderful experience of Kabuki even if you are unable to attend a live performance. Taking photos and video is allowed and Kazui will take pictures of you riding on a Kabuki horse!

Finally Kazui will take you special souvenir Kabuki and Japanese traditional craft shops, creating a wonderful shopping experience! If you are interested in the shops of English books or woodblock prints of Kabuki, please send your request in advance.
