I am a plastic artist, self-taught for more than 20 years, I dedicate myself to the work of easel, mural, sculpture, bioconstruction and for 5 years with my partner we created a project that we named "IK-Kan", in He is dedicated to the rescue and promotion of Mexican folk art, since this is a wonderful living example of the ancient culture of our people and shows the great creative tradition of Mexico. In our work the history, art, colors, magic and mysticism of our lands are combined, since we make masks, skulls, alebrijes and monumental alebrijes with the original technique of cartonerìa, with the aim of keeping the tradition alive of our grandparents and grandmothers, share it with the world. and give this legacy the decent place it deserves.

Absolut empfehlenswert.

A magical & beautiful experience rooted in cultura. Rafael is a talented artist and teacher with profound knowledge of the history of the Alebrijes and the ongoing efforts to preserve this Mexican folk art. Along with his partner Irene and his oldest son, Rafael guided us through every stage of painting our Alebrijes, from understanding the meaning of each animal in it, to choosing colors and painting techniques to make each one of our alebrijes unique. We all felt so proud of our alebrijes at the end of the class and left the studio feeling more like friends than guests, knowing a lot more about the history of Valladolid itself, and in awe of the work Rafael and his family have done for years to share the beauty of Mexican folk art. We drove 2 hours from Puerto Morelos specifically for this experience and ended up staying the night to enjoy all the beautiful sights and the delicious food in town. This experience was absolutely worth it!

This was a wonderful experience, I would highly recommend it. We had a great time painting and learning about the history of alebrijes, and great Spanish practice too! It’s also great location for going swimming in the cenote afterwards 😊

Rafael and his family were such warm and welcoming hosts with a great method of teaching. The experience was really fun and wholesome, with a super chilled atmosphere and some good jokes! The techniques were really well explained, and even though some of the patterns were tricky it was very satisfying when you got into the swing of it. We loved spending some time chatting about the history of Mayan art, pop culture and getting to know the way of life for an artist in Valladolid. The experience was perfectly timed, and the location is ideal, right next to the Cenote for a dip to cool off after all the concentration! We can’t thank Raphael enough for his generosity and patience, for making us feel like friends, and for showing us some amazing new skills. Highly recommend this experience for beginners and experts alike!
