What you'll do

‘Aristotle’s Practical Philosophy’ (A real Greek philosophy walk and talk.)

This philosophy ‘Walk and Talk’ emphasises Aristotle’s practical philosophy, and how to improve our personal happiness and that of the cities we live in. The talk also touches on the environment, sustainability, our modern democracies, and the goals of education.

We will meet at 9.15 am at the 'Coffee Island' café opposite Thisseon Metro station ready to leave promptly at 9.30 am.

We will stroll slowly for just under half an hour to a beautiful and inspiring location overlooking the city of Athens for the talk - since ‘cities’ is one of this talk’s themes. I will point out several things of local interest as we go.

We then reach an inspiring and peaceful place to sit and listen to the Aristotle talk which lasts about 45 minutes. (There is time afterwards for questions.) We will then stroll back to Thisseon Metro together. (TOTAL TIME NEEDED: Just under two hours round trip.)

(..... Alternatively, when the Aristotle talk finishes you may prefer to go off sightseeing on your own – since many tourist attractions and other places of interest are a short walk away.)

I have an honours degree in education and these days my life revolves around sharing ‘real’ Greek philosophy with others. Since 2012 I have been giving regular ‘informal’ Greek philosophy talks and walks in Greece (Athens and Delphi).

My first philosophy book was published in 2013 with a new edition released in 2019. It includes a chapter on Aristotle’s Practical Philosophy and Happiness .... so if you enjoy my ‘walk with talk’ you will be able to read more on the subject if you wish in your own time.

However, as Plato writes - you cannot learn real Greek philosophy 'just from a book' - since it is in large part a practical subject; and it has to be lived as well. This walk and talk explains why we still need to consider the ‘big’ questions Aristotle looked at, and why this is important in helping us live happier wiser lives today.
