What you'll do

This experience begins in the center of Leatherhead, close to the train station/bus stops & where ample public car parks are available.

We will take in a few facts about the town as we gather before departing along the River Mole toward Dorking. On route we may be fortunate to observe Kingfisher in flight along the bank as we head to Denbies Vineyard. At the vineyard we will participate in an outdoor tour of the estate, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine After your opportunity to purchase your favorite wines or gifts in the shop, we will depart with a bottle for a walk over the renowned stepping stones before making a steep climb up the side of Box Hill to the view point at the top. Once at the top we will enjoy a glass of sparkling wine over looking the south of England (and visit the National Trust cafe and shop if desired) before returning down the westerly slope. Once descended from the hill we will return to Leatherhead and can stop for further refreshments (not included in fee) at a historic public house. dating back to the 16th century

This walk is approximately 10 miles /16 Km long, will involve a climb of approximately 500ft/166m and should last about 4 hours (excluding vineyard tour, visit to cafe / public house) and is therefore not suitable for individuals with poor health or may be heavily pregnant. Strong shoes and suitable clothing are advised.

Where you'll be

Referenced in the Domesday book of 1086, Leatherhead is a historic town where the The River Mole is a tributary of the River Thames in southern England. Kingfisher can be seen along the river Mole. Denbies Wine Estate, has the largest vineyard in England with 265 acres under vine. Box Hill, managed by The National Trust hosts Salomons Memorial View Point, 224m above sea level and boasts many hidden treasure, some of we shall explore.

More tips

Please ensure you are fit, healthy and wear comfortable clothing; this isn't a beauty parade or a race and we will walk at the pace of the slowest walker. Well-behaved children and dogs are welcome but both will be limited in their participation of wine tasting!
