What you'll do

You’ll get a brief introduction into crofting, getting some knowledge of what it is and how it fits into the 21st century. You’ll get up close to sheep, pigs and Highland cows and also see examples of other crofting diversification.

The croft is also directly adjacent to Comunn Eachdraidh Nis Museum & Café, with parking and toilets also available.

Learn about crofting with Scotland’s 2018 Young Crofter of the Year. Donald Macsween has been involved in crofting all his life and now runs the family croft on a full time basis. Supplying fresh produce to local shops and diversifying with other products. Donald’s successes have resulted in his own tv series on BBC Alba, the Gaelic language channel, with series 4 of An Lot/The Croft being filmed in 2019.

Donald is a very interesting character. An original way to discover the life of Scottish farmers and better understand the history and culture of Lewis and Harris.
