What you'll do

Providing each guest with a tapered white lamp shade, a double-ended artist's pen and pencils (if they are feeling cautious) I will demonstrate how guests can hand-draw a view of Bristol City Harbourside directly onto a lampshade.

Showing examples that I have drawn myself I will advise the best position to comfortably sit, how to hold the lamp shade and how to work with perspectives by keeping to the base of the shade in a panoramic view of the city. Outside the Summer months I will offer printed photographs of the city skyline for guests to draw from.

At the end of this 2.5-hour workshop each guest will go home with a unique hand-drawn lamp shade of Bristol that they can take home and add to either a lamp stand or ceiling light fitting.

As a Bristol-based artist I have extensive experience of drawing the city that I love. I have exhibited widely in the city. I have done numerous commissions for private ond commercial customers. Alongside my two-dimensional drawings I also hand-draw directly onto lamp shades offering a unique panoramic view of a city, structure or landscape. To-date Clifton Suspension Bridge, Clevedon Pier, St Paul's Cathedral London and even the Orient Express Locomotive have been immortalised on a lamp shade.

Alongside my art practice I hold regular Introduction to Social Media workshops and am also a Creative Coach to artists and creatives. I have facilitated drawings workshops in schools, colleges and universities. Until May 2019 I was also a Volunteer Business Mentor for the Prince's Trust helping young people with their start-up business

Where you'll be

During the Summer months (May-August) and if the weather is fine we will find the best vantage point to get a view of Bristol's harbourside - probably outside the M-Shed incorporating cranes and landmarks.

During the Autumn/Winter/Spring Months (Sept - April) we will work from photographs that I have taken of Bristol views and I will book at table in the Watershed Art Centre by the Tourist Information Centre
