What you'll do

The guest are greeted by me and we star the trip over the estate. During the tour we pass by the vineyards, walnutrees and corktreeflorest, making stops on the most iconic places so the guest can enjoy the landscapes that the estate offers. During the trip i will tell about our philosophy is based on respect for nature, the uniqueness of the land and the way the vineyards are worked. The harmony between the vineyards, the wallnuts, the corktree florest and the richness of native fauna and flora are privileged, in a balance that makes the Coelheiros terroir unique. Our team feel the responsibility to preserve the natural heritage of the homestead ensuring its sustainability.
Finally we finish with the tasting os some os our wines, where guests will be able to taste the historical "Tapada de Coelheiros" wine, accompanied by our olive oil and wallnuts, cheese and sausages from our region.

I am Dario, since I remember that I love to cook and so at the age of 18 I decided to study cooking and I also got a master's degree in wine, however I ended up going to work for 8 years in a multinational company in the area of large distribution.

Tired of doing something I didn't identify with, I decided to move to Alentejo, to a more calm and unhurried life and where I can share daily with everyone who visits us the reality of our homestead and responsibility that we feel in preserving the natural heritage that previous generations left us, and as we also want to guarantee its sustainability and enhance its resilience, so that what was left to us can also endure for future generations.

Where you'll be

We will be in the Herdade de Coelheiros, a family estate, has been producing high quality wines in Alentejo since 1991. Located in Igrejinha, in the Arraiolos municipality, it shares the philosophy of the art of the famous handmade tapestries: the embroidery in the smallest point known, from which emerges a detailed and rigorous design. (Arraiolos Tapestry — Teresa Pacheco Pereira) This is how the wines from Coelheiros are born: from each vineyard plot, blend to blend, a composition that is woven in a deep connection with land and nature.

Our experience with Dario was amazing! He made us feel very special, and at no point during the tour did it feel like he didn't want to share his knowledge or make us feel special. The estate is beautiful and we learned a lot. Dario answered all of our many questions very patiently, and we even saw a white deer! During the wine tasting Dario explained the wine and growing process very well and the wine was very, very good! Definitely, definitely worth it! 100%!

I couldn't have imagined a better experience than touring this beautiful estate with Dario and getting a good understanding of their efforts to make this a sustainable place with the symbiosis of vineyards, cork forests, walnut and olive trees and sheep.

This was a wonderful experience! Dario is very knowledgeable and friendly. He answered so many questions for us! It was fascinating to learn about all parts of the estate and how they work together. We really enjoyed the wine tasting and learning about the varieties of Portuguese grapes and the Portuguese wine industry. This tour was one of the highlights of our entire trip to Portugal.

I'm keen to learn anything about wine or anything wine-related so I was thrilled and excited to find this experience, but concerned that, as a solo traveler, it might get canceled if nobody else signed up (very possible in the off-season...). I was the only participant that day and relieved that Dario was still happy to take me around and spend time with me. The estate is lovely, even in December, and I enjoyed seeing the walnut, olive, and cork trees, vineyards, and deer, including a white one (!) as well as tasting their wine, olive oil, and walnuts. Great day.

What a great experience! Dario made us feel welcome from the very beginning. His knowledge of cork, vineyards and walnuts was fabulous and we loved learning from him. We enjoyed the ride around the vast property, petting Tina (the dog), spotting a deer and of course the wonderful wine tasting and snacks at the end. I highly recommend this excursion if you are in the area.

We travelled off season so ended up having a private tour of the estate. Dario told us about the ownership history, the vineyards and explained about the various grapes planted over the years and the effective use of grafting to maintain deep roots when planting new varietals. He also told us a lot about the cork, walnut and olive trees, and we went in search of deer on the estate. In addition, he answered my multitude of questions with helpful information and infinite patience. All of this culminated in a sumptuous feast of cheeses and sausages, with an opportunity to try 6 different wines- an opportunity I took! The venue for the tasting was an outdoor covered alcove from which we had a spectacular view of the estate. This was a highlight of our trip!
